Violence erupts in Godhra

Ahmedabad May 25. Close on the heels of the imposition of an indefinite curfew in Godhra this morning after police firing to quell mob violence led to the death of two persons on Friday night, tension spread to neighbouring Piplod town of Dahod district in Gujarat where groups clashed and indulged in arson.

Police and the Border Security Force personnel already deployed there brought the situation under control. No arrests have been made so far. Police said that apparently the group clash seemed to be aimed at preventing refugees of a relief camp at Godhra from returning to their homes at Piplod.

K. P. S. Gill, Security Advisor to the Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, rushed to Godhra .
