Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Call their bluff

Sir, — Refer to your Editorial "Gesture towards de-escalation" (May 24). While I do not expect you to support the Government, to imply that we are at fault vis-a-vis Pakistan is indeed surprising. Pervez Musharraf has time and again proved to be untrustworthy. India has displayed Biblical patience as far as Pakistan is concerned. It is time we called the Pakistani bluff.

I am not advocating adventurism, but let no one underestimate our strength and resolve.

Ratish Nair,
Chennai Sir, — Terming Pakistan's gesture as a move to ease the tensions between the two countries seems fallacious. Musharraf's statements in the past have never resulted in any positive outcome. The people of Kashmir are exhausted with the continuing violence which has been prevailing for the last 15 years.

Janaki Netrakanti,
Hyderabad
