Condemnable

Sir, — This refers to reports that Israel has genetically engineered chicken without wings in order to reduce fat. Similar genetic manipulation is being done on cattle and pigs to eliminate certain parts of the body which are not edible. Meat animals are kept in constricted conditions. They are fed non-edible parts and the excreta of slaughtered animals to provide protein and bulk. Poultry birds are kept in narrow cages where they cannot even move. To prevent them from harming each other, their beaks are removed by using electric arc. Animal lovers should protest against such inhuman practices.
