Bank staff plan stir

NEW DELHI MAY 26. The National Organisation of Bank Workers today decided to launch a nationwide struggle to demand the setting up of a national rural bank, more pension options, withdrawal of tax on perks and other pro-labour measures.

The decision to submit a memorandum to the Union Finance Minister, Yashwant Sinha, and launching the struggle in June was taken at a meeting in Bangalore.

The NOBW which is affiliated to the Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh of BJP would also demand speedy recovery of non-performing assets and formation of a National Rural Bank. The association would also demand stopping of indiscriminate computerisation in banks, compassionate recruitment and its negotiating rights, sources said. — PTI
