Two seeds fall on first day

BANGALORE May 27. The opening rounds f the RCA-AITA South Zone sub-junior tennis championship that got underway here on Monday was marked by two upsets.

The fifth seeded Bharath K. Mohan of Tamil Nadu went down to team-mate, M. Fariz at 5-7, 3-6 in the boys under-16 singles section, while Hanna Grace knocked out the fourth seed, Kanimozhi in a hard fought three setter at 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the girls under-14 singles event.

In another well contested girls under-14 encounter, C. Lekha of Andhra Pradesh prevailed over Pavani Patil 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (5-7), 6-4.

In the girls under-16 section, all fancied players, including Madhura Ranghanathan of Tamil Nadu, moved up, posting easy wins.
