Andhra Pradesh
By Our Special Correspondent
Reiterating his litany of complaints against the Government, Mr.Chandrasekhara Rao said pending irrigation projects were proof of the TDP's apathy towards Telangana. The Warangal Mahanadu was yet another ploy to divert the attention of the people from the real issues, he said. Talking to presspersons, Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao said the double standards of the Government were glaring even in the ex-gratia announced to farmers who suffered from natural calamities recently, he said adding the Andhra region farmers got Rs.1,250 per hectare as compensation while the Telangana farmers got Rs.1,000 when hailstorm damaged their crop. Telangana's backwardness could be erased if the region got its due from Godavari and Krishna rivers. The Chief Minister reneged on the promise of developing Mahabubnagar district he said and pointed out that only 25,000 acres was being irrigated under the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme now instead of 80,000 acres as in the past. Tatkal scheme for giving power connections was a farce as no Telangana farmer could afford to take a connection under the scheme by paying Rs.50,000 as charges and pay a tariff of Rs.1.25 per unit later. The ruling party owed an explanation to the Warangal farmers he said as its leaders including the Chief Minister, had humiliated the Warangal farmers by accusing them of committing suicide for the sake of ex-gratia (referring to the deaths of cotton farmers). He said the Warangal Mahanadu should answer all such problems in its declaration and not heap once again mere promises as had been done earlier on the people of Telangana.
