Sudhir Kumar, son of former Union Minister P. Shiv Shankar, represented Malakpet constituency in the Assembly during 1989-94 but lost the subsequent two elections in 1994 and 1999. He is survived by wife Geeta, a son and daughter. The APCC-I president, M. Satyanarayana Rao, the CLP leader, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, P. Jeevan Reddy, B.S.A. Swamy, a number of senior Congress-I leaders and ex-Ministers visited the residence of Mr. Shiv Shankar this morning and offered their condolences to the bereaved family. The body of Sudhir Kumar was kept at the PCC headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan, for a couple of hours, to enable party workers pay homage, before being taken in a procession to the crematorium. Mr. Satyanarayana Rao, Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy and others attended the funeral. Sudhir Kumar served as the State Youth Congress president before getting elected as MLA from Malakpet constituency. He was also actively involved in student union elections and was elected president of the Nizam College Students Union. The APCC-I president expressed grief over the untimely death of Sudhir Kumar. "He was very active and a popular leader with a bright future,'' Mr. Rao said. The Congress-I president, Sonia Gandhi, spoke to Mr. Shiv Shankar over phone and conveyed her condolences. In separate statements, the A.P. Youth Congress president, T. Venkat Rao, City MLA, D. Nagender, APCC vice-president, Gade Venkat Reddy, PCC secretary, D.V. Satyanarayana Rao, and PCC member, G. Rudraraju, recalled the services of Sudhir Kumar to the party.
