Letters to the Editor
Sir, Though Pakistan says that its test-firing of a surface-to-surface ballistic missile is part of the research and development of its indigenous missile programme, the fact is that Pakistan's missile and nuclear programmes are India-centric, just as India's missile and nuclear programmes are Pakistan-centric. It is a pity that both the nations, beset as they are with problems such as poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, and a lack of proper infrastructure, have been wasting crores of rupees on missiles and nuclear bombs just to keep their mutual animosity of Partition days alive and to complete "the unfinished business" of destroying each other. Since all this sabre-rattling is over Kashmir, it is time both the nations settled this issue once and for all.
Raghav Venkatesh,
