Letters to the Editor
Sir, Pervez Musharraf said nothing new in his speech on May 27. The only difference was that he preceded his national telecast with two "imported but claimed as indigenously produced" missile tests to impress his domestic audience. Yet, the international community has not done much to rein him in. He has mastered double-speak and got accolades from the West for what he has done so far in its fight against terrorism. No one will ever come to our rescue. We need to fight our own battles.
A. Sridharan,
Sir, One wonders why India should respond to Gen. Musharraf's address to his nation, for, it is directed at the home audience. It does not contain any measures that India has been wanting Pakistan to initiate. Like its recent missile test-firing, the current address too is aimed at amusing the home crowd.
V.S. Jayaraman,
