Sir, Everyone agrees that subsidies should go one day or the other. What is lacking is the political will do so. The vote bank politics is coming in the way of economic reforms. For example, the middle class can afford a modest hike in the prices of whatever goods/services they make use of provided they are convinced it is for the nation's good. However, those below the poverty line should continue to get subsidies. A phased reduction of subsidies may be acceptable rather than a steep one-time exercise.
