The overall pass percentage this year was 69.24 compared to 66.60 last year, registering an increase of 2.93 per cent, the CBSE chairman, Ashok Ganguly, told reporters here today. The Ajmer region gave the best pass percentage (86.26) for the third successive year with Chennai region coming second with 85.33, followed by Chandigarh (79.49), Allahabad (78.61), Delhi (54.90) and Guwahati 47.85. Boys with a pass percentage of 69.74 fared slightly better than the girls with 69.24. The pass percentage of regular students is 75.20 compared to 32.27 of private/correspondence candidates. The performance of Government schools improved this year with the pass percentage going up from last year's 38.9 to 43.65 this year. The Government-aided schools also did better with a pass percentage of 56.50 against 51.30 last year.The success rate of independent schools, however, remained almost stagnant with 85.63 this year compared to 85.40 last year.
