War no solution, says Gowda

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE MAY 28. The former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, today said that war was not a solution to the Indo-Pak problem and in particular, the Jammu and Kashmir issue.

Talking to presspersons here, Mr. Gowda said if the Centre was in favour of "hot pursuit", then it had to ensure the necessary preparations both on the diplomatic as well as the domestic front. "The Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, should take all political parties and leaders into confidence with reference to the action that the Centre proposes to take to sort out the tension along the Indo-Pak. border arising out of cross-border terrorism.''

He said merely holding discussions with the Leader of the Opposition and Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, would not help. The Prime Minister should realise that he was heading a coalition Government and that he had to hold discussions with all the alliance partners, other parties and leaders.
