Monsoon sets in

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM MAY 29 .The onset of the southwest monsoon in Kerala was formally declared by the Met office here today, with heavy to very heavy rainfall being recorded in the southern districts of the State and Kochi.

The Met Director, V.K. Gangadharan, said the onset this year was two days earlier than the normal date of June 1. Last year, it was May 23, a full week ahead of the June 1 schedule.
