The Pakistani troops heavily shelled forward posts in Poonch killing four persons and injuring 30. Several mortar shells landed in the town causing panic. A jawan died and a woman was injured in shelling at Kalsian in "Rajouri district. Switching from mortars and light arms, Pakistani forces, during the past 24 hours, have rained over 1,200 rounds of artillery fire on the Dras-Mushkoh stretch of the highway. Army officials said that traffic on the highway which was thrown open only last week, after extensive snow clearance operations at Zoji La, was not affected. They said Pakistanis had fired over 400 rounds of artillery shells in Siachen glacier, 600 rounds on Indian positions in Battalik-Kargil sector and over 400 rounds in the Keran sector and Poonch town. In Naushera on the Jammu-Poonch highway, the Pakistani forces fired over 500 rounds of 120mm and 82mm mortars. In the retaliatory firing, five Pakistani soldiers were killed and a number of their bunkers and fortified positions destroyed.
