By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD MAY 30. The Cabinet, which met here on Thursday, ordered release of Rs. 316 crores for the 17th round of Janmabhoomi (women and farmers) programme beginning June 1. Briefing reporters, the Minister for Information & Public Relations, S. Chandramohan Reddy, said the 10-day programme would focus on the needs of farmers and women.

The Cabinet approved release of Rs. 30.69 crores toward relief to farmers who availed themselves of cooperative crop loans. It approved amendment to the AP Panchayati Raj Act facilitating abolition of the posts of executive officer of gram panchayats and redesignating them as village secretary. It would also enable the Government to take away from the Commissioner of Panchayati Raj the power to bifurcate and form new gram panchayats.
