By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR MAY 30. The Karimnagar district police have foiled the CPI-ML Janashakthi group naxalites' plan for the revival of the party in the district with the arrest of the party's official spokesperson, M.V. Prasad, and five others and recovery of arms and ammunition which were meant for attacking the Kodimyal police station. Disclosing this to newsmen here on Thursday evening, the Superintendent of Police, R.S. Praveen Kumar, said that during regular vehicle-checking by the Jagtial police on Wednesday afternoon they had recovered three landmines placed in buckets and olive green dress from a jeep. The police arrested Bura Srinivas, A Shankar Goud, Rasheed and Ch. Gopal, who were transporting the landmines and dress.

On further interrogation, the arrested persons confessed that they were shifting the material to Surampeta village of Kodimyal mandal. Following the surrender of 46 Janashakthi naxalites along with their weapons before the Chief Minister recently, the Janashakthi had suffered a major setback in the district. In order to revive party activities in Karimnagar, the Janashakthi State committee, including Kura Rajanna, Kura Devender, M.V. Prasad and 20 others had organised a meeting in Nalgonda district and decided to wage a `war' against the police and political leaders and to resort to violent acts to show their presence felt and terrorise people to start extortion, he said.

The SP said accordingly the Janashakthi had constituted an action team with M.V. Prasad as incharge to conduct `reiki' to target the Kodimyal police station which was opened recently on the request of villagers. Following the information, the police had arrested the Janashakthi official spokesperson, Prasad in Hyderabad on Wednesday night and recovered Rs 1.58 lakhs from him. He said that the Janashakthi State committee leader, Kura Rajanna, had handed over Rs 2.5 lakhs to Prasad to conduct the operation of attacking the police station.

When Prasad was taken to Surampet village of Kodimyal mandal for further investigation, the PDSU State president, Venkateshwarlu, was found in the village and on noticing the police presence he took to the heels. However, the police caught hold of him and seized arms and ammunition from his possession.

The weapons recovered included three DBBL guns, one 8 mm rifle, one US made carbine, 114 rounds of 12 bore weapon, 79 rounds of 8 mm rifle and 51 rounds of 6.5 and 5.7 ammunition. The OSD, N. Madhusudhan Reddy was also present.
