Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
He also maintained that the Employment Exchange's role was limited and would function like a postman. Another amusing feature one can come across in Pondicherry is that the government departments would call for applications for posts from eligible candidates. But these applications would gather dust for months together without the job seekers or applicants knowing what had happened to their applications. Whenever advertisements are released for recruitment there would be no mention of the dates of tests including the written and viva voce tests. Candidates are thus kept guessing on the dates of the tests. The panels like Staff Selection Commission or privately run banks and some nationalised banks recruiting hands at the national level in their advertisements specifically mention the date of the examinations. But traditionally Pondicherry government would not mention the dates of tests in the advertisements. The pattern of question papers are not also normally mentioned in the advertisements. There is no separate Service Commission here and hence the dictum of the Labour Minister that jobs would be available only when there was divine blessing for unemployed is not without substance.
