``Everything is in place and we are ready for the take-off'', the Vellore collector and district electoral officer, A.C.Mohandoss told The Hindu on Thursday. In all 488 electronic voting machine machines (EVMs) have been installed in the 244 booths at the rate of two in each booth. The use of two EVMs in each booth has been necessitated by the presence of 20 candidates. One EVM could accommodate only 16 candidates. There would be one control unit for two EVMs. All the EVMs have been checked and were in working condition. Sufficient number of technicians have also been drafted for poll duty to attend to possible faults that the EVMs might develop in the course of the polling. A total of 1257 polling personnel would be involved in the conduct of the election. According to the superintendent of police, Pramod Kumar, a total of 1800 police personnel including 12 DSPs, 65 inspectors of police and 189 sub-inspectors would be on bandhobust duty. Besides, nine companies of the Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP) and one company of the Swift Action Force (SAF) have also arrived in the Vaniyambadi constituency to assist the local police in the peaceful conduct of the election. Eight check-posts have been set up on all the roads leading to Ambur and Vaniyambadi and the entry of outsiders was being monitored from Wednesday onwards, immediately after the campaigning came to an end.
