Voters should establish identity

Electronic Voting Machines being despatched to polling stations from the Government Arts College at Nandanam in Chennai, on Thursday.

CHENNAI May 30. Polling will begin at 8.a.m sharp and end at around 5 p.m tomorrow in the Saidapet, Vaniyambadi and Acharapakkam Assembly constituencies.

The Election Commission has directed polling officers to apply the indelible ink two times on two corners of the left forefinger of the voter before allowing him or her to cast the vote.

All voters should establish their identity, producing either their electors' photo identity cards or any of the 19 documents prescribed by the Commission. Voters who have been issued EPICs should compulsorily produce them; the others could show bank passbooks, rations cards, and also slum Clearance Board tenement allotment orders issued on or before April 1 this year.

The village administrative officer's certificate should contain the photograph of the voter, his or her address and other details in the prescribed format, endorsed by the tahsildar. The district administration has been asked to maintain a register of the number of certificates issued.

All voters who join the queue till 5 p.m will be allowed to vote, according to the State Election department.
