Property attached in case against Dhyaneswaran

CHENNAI May 30. A special court for CBI cases here has ordered interim attachment of immovable property in the disproportionate wealth case against the former IAS officer, A.N. Dhyaneswaran.

Attached were two pieces of land and superstructures in the posh Annanagar locality here, one piece of property in the Kilpauk Garden Colony registered in favour of the Dr. Dharmambal Namasivayam Trust, property on Usman Road, T.Nagar, landed property and building at Kilpauk and land at Mogappair and Arasangudi village, Tiruchi district. The total value of the property as per sale deeds was about Rs.87.41 lakhs.

In March last year, the investigating agency filed the charge sheet against the former Chairman-cum-Managing Director of TAMIN, who was compulsorily retired for allegedly possessing wealth to the tune of Rs.7.34 crores, ``disproportionate to known sources of his income''.

While the former IAS officer has been cited as the main accused, his elder son, A.D. Senthureswaran, assistant manager, Indian Bank, Chennai, and S.Narayanan, clerk, Arignar Anna Sugar Mills, Kurungulam, Thanjavur, figure as the other accused.

Mr. Dhyaneswaran has been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the others have been charged with abetment.

The check period has been given as July 11, 1991-January 31, 1996.

According to the charge sheet, the former officer acquired movable and immovable assets in his name and in the names of others.

In January 1996, the Income-Tax department searched his houses at Annanagar and Kilpauk and his office, seizing Rs.1.64 crores in cash, 18.976 kg of gold ornaments, diamond jewellery, 63 kg of silver articles and documents for investments of Rs.1.08 crores.

Documents on purchase of assets in the city and at Arasangudi were also recovered.
