Electronic voting machines and polling materials have been moved to 273 stations in Saidapet, where there are 2.43 lakh voters, 163 stations in Acharapakkam (reserved) with 1.67 lakh voters and 244 booths in Vaniyambadi with a 2.02-lakh electorate. As fears of violence loom large in the sensitive Saidapet constituency in Chennai, 1000 Central para-military personnel have taken positions there, besides 7,500 State police personnel posted in the three constituencies. With the Opposition DMK, PMK and Left parties turning the byelection into a mini-referendum on the one-year AIADMK regime, the three constituencies witness a keen battle in which 60 candidates are in the fray.
