Addressing a press conference, B. V. Raghavulu, secretary of the State Committee of the CPI (M), said issues like suicides by farmers and weavers, fall in prices of farm products, cooperative urban bank scams, atrocities on Dalits, misuse of Food For Work programme were not discussed by the Mahanadu. "The Mahanadu may be a success from the Telugu Desam's angle but it is a utter failure, from people's point of view.'' He went on to demand setting up of an enquiry commission into the causes for suicide by farmers. Even in the area of reforms, the debate was reduced to extolling the Government for its "bold initiatives'', instead of taking a critical look at the reforms and weighing its pros and cons. The much-talked about human face to the reforms is not seen anywhere. And as if the Mahanadu has approved the Government's moves, the water charges and APSRTC bus pass rates have been hiked, again without any discussion. Seen from the political angle, the Mahanadu exposed the Telugu Desam's duplicity and opportunism, he said. There was no word on the Gujarat Government's complicity in communal riots nor the war clouds hovering over the country. In the name of reforms and development, the TDP continues to support the BJP-led Government at the Centre. All this goes on to expose the TDP's political bankruptcy.
