Letters to the Editor
Sir, Your editorial ``Death by Fahrenheit'' (May 25) on the burgeoning fatalities from heat in summer year after year is a sad commentary on the pathetic state of India's public health system and the appallingly low level of awareness, much less, preparedness. Little doubt, the gravity of calamity calls for abundant precaution and extraordinary preparation, which are required for managing a national disaster. The heavy toll of human lives can be considerably reduced if only simple first-aid techniques are adopted to treat heat stroke victims. The Government should unveil long-term strategies to grapple with this "mid-summer menace".
