By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD May 30. A 65-year-old man had a miraculous escape when the car he was driving crashed into the rails on Hussainsagar and came to a halt against an iron rod on the edge of the lake water early this morning.

When the police reached the scene they found the car partially submerged in water. They commandeered a crane and lifted the car, rescued the man and sent him to Osmania general hospital. K. Gurra Raju of Kompally village in Ranga Reddy district was driving his Maruti on Tank Bund in an inebriated condition and crashed into the railings which were damaged.

Raju was subsequently admitted to a private hospital and after treatment was discharged. The Chikkadpally police have registered a case.

The Police Commissioner, M.V. Krishna Rao, thanked owners of Modern Crane Services for their humanitarian gesture in saving a life. Meanwhile, in a press release, the Additional Commissioner of Police, A.K. Khan, has advised the general public not to resort to drunken driving.
