Shelling continues

JAMMU MAY 31. A jawan was killed in heavy exchange of mortar shelling and firing along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir since last night, a Defence Ministry spokesman said here today.

Pakistani troops resorted to heavy artillery and mortar shelling from across the LoC in Kargil and Drass sectors forcing Indian troops to retaliate.

A jawan was killed at a forward post due to the shelling in one of the sectors, he said. Exchange of mortar and small arms fire also took place in several sectors along the LoC, but the casualties or damage on the other side could not be ascertained. — PTI
