Voters happy with my work: H.K. Patil

Belgaum May 31. The Congress nominee to contest the election to the Legislative Council from the Karnataka West Graduates' Constituency and Minister for Water Resources, H.K. Patil, attributed his success in electoral politics during the past eighteen years to the voters who supported him on the basis of the work he had done, and merit.

Talking to presspersons after filing his nomination papers before the Returning Officer and Divisional Commissioner, B.A. Coutinho, here today, he said: "I have been working with the objective of building a strong Kannada Nadu and I draw great moral support from the voters of my constituency who are all educated."

When told that the Office Secretary of the KPCC, L. Narayana, in a press release issued on Thursday evening had stated that he (Mr. Patil) would be filing his nomination for the South-east Graduates' Constituency, Mr. Patil expressed ignorance about any such release.

On whether he had any specific manifesto for the voters of his constituency, he replied in the negative, but said he had been according priority to employment generation and opportunities for graduates. He would continue to work in that direction.

Earlier, Mr. Patil thanked the voters of his constituency for their support in the past and expressed confidence that the support had grown in the past six years. He also thanked all the ministers, party legislators, MPs, leaders, office-bearers of district and block committees from Belgaum, Dharwad, Bijapur, Haveri, Karwar, and Gadag districts who were present when he filed his nomination papers.

Those present included the ministers, Veerkumar Patil and A.M. Hindasgeri, Amarsinh Patil and I.G. Sanadi, MPs, Prabhakar Kore, MLC, Prakash Hukkeri, Ramesh Kudachi, Ramesh Jarkiholi, and Shyam Ghatge, MLAs.

The electoral college comprising the Karnataka West Graduates' Constituency consists of four districts — Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, and Karwar. According to the voters' list published on February 1, 2002, there are 68,460 voters — 32,829 in Dharwad, 10,297 in Haveri, 11,169 in Gadag, and 14,165 in Karwar. However, the number of voters will change once the final list is prepared.
