Karunanidhi cancels birthday functions

CHENNAI May 31. The DMK president, M.Karunanidhi, has announced cancellation of all functions organised in connection with his 79th birthday on June 3. He requested cadres and party leaders not to greet him on his birthday.

This was to ``mourn the murder of democracy'' in today's Saidapet Assembly bypoll, Mr. Karunanidhi said. Only a book release function slated for June 2 at the Anna Arivalayam here would take place, he said.
