Pondicherry May 31. The Government High school at Gandhi Nagar in Thattanchavady Assembly constituency in Pondicherry which has achieved cent percent pass in the SSLC examination, the result of which was announced on Thursday, would be presented a cash award of Rs 1 lakh, according to the Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan. He told presspersons here today that all the 45 students (including 12 physically disabled students) of the school who appeared for the SSLC in March this year have emerged successful. The scheme to present Rs 1 lakh to the school with cent percent pass was introduced a few years ago by the Administration to laud the government school with such enviable record. The Department of Education would also present Rs 1 lakh to the Sindhanai Sirpi Government Boys HS at Veerampattinam as a mark of appreciation of a village based school with more than 90 per cent pass record . This school has produced 96.1 percent of pass in the examination. Similarly the Government High School at Korkadu (another village school) which has produced 95.7 per cent of pass would also be presented the cash award, the Education Minister said. Three schools in Karaikal run by the Department of Education-the Government High School, Kurumbagaram, the Government HS in Vizhidhiyur and the Tiruvalluvar GHSS at Ambagarathur-would be presented Rs 1 lakh each under the scheme to encourage rural schools with more than 90 per cent of passes. The prizes to these six schools would be presented during the Teachers Day celebration, Lakshminarayanan said. The Minister said that J.Angelin of Subramania Bharathiar Government Girls HS with 487 out of 500, Priya Esther Samuel of Tiruvalluvar GGHSS (485 marks) and A.Mangalambigai (483) also from the same school are the top three rankers in SSLC examinations as far as the government schools are concerned. These students and their parents were felicitated by the Minister in his chamber today. The Principal of the GHS at Gandhi Nagar Neelathatchi was felicitated by the Minister for the cent percent pass in the examination. The Head of the Tiruvalluvar GGHSS Vijayalakshmi was lauded by the Minister for her school's performance of producing the second and third rankers in SSLC examination among government schools. A source said that the government would consider a proposal to present cash award to the best performers among the government school sponsored students at the SSLC examination.
