2 die as motorcycle rams lorry

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE MAY 31. Two persons were killed when their motorcycle hit a truck near Ajanta Hotel on M.G. Road in Ulsoor police station limits on Thursday night. The impact of the collision was such that the diesel tank of the lorry burst, police said.

Police have identified the deceased as Josain Kelvin Tarun (24), a resident of R.T. Nagar and employed with a software company on Cunningham Road, and his friend, Shruthi (21), a student and resident of C.V. Raman Nagar.

According to police, Josain took the imported bike from one of his friends on M.G. Road around 11 p.m. His friend told police that Josain had come in his car around 10 p.m. and they had tea. When Josain's other friend joined them, Josain asked for the motorcycle as he wanted to have a "jolly ride".

Police, quoting eye-witnesses, said the duo must have made at least three rounds on M.G. Road before crashing against the lorry.

The lorry was deployed at the construction site of the Vysya Bank. Its driver ran away after the accident. Ulsoor police have booked a case and are investigating.

For Shruthi, a graphic design student of the Wigan & Leigh Design School in Domlur, the mishap was a cruel twist of fate. Acknowledged among family and friends as talented, Shruthi had been active in theatre, art, and writing. She had even written two plays, one of them on drug abuse, and harboured ambitions of a bigger role on the stage.

Shruthi's father, Mukunda Rao, author of three books himself, described how she had been consciously striving to be a good writer. Shruthi was also instrumental in freeing a close friend from drug addiction, he recalled.
