21 militants surrender in Kupwara

By Our Correspondent

Kupwara June 1. Twentyone militants surrendered before the civil administration this morning in Kashmir's Kupwara district. Sixteen of the militants were from the Majid Dar group of the Hizb-ul Mujahideen and the rest belonged to other organisations.

The Army described it a ``major achievement'' as a large number of militants had surrendered at the same time. The Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, senior Army officers and other police officers were present. According to sources, the Army urged the militants' families to convince them to give up militancy. The militants were in the age group of 20 and 30.
