State to revert to old formula

LUCKNOW JUNE 1. The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet today decided to revert to the old formula of reservation for the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes and the Other Backward Castes as was applicable in the State before the former Chief Minister, Rajnath Singh, had decided to implement a new policy of reservation within reservation.

Briefing newspersons after the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Secretary, D. S. Bagga, said the Government had amended the UP Public Services (Reservation for the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes and the Other Backward Classes) Act, 1994, on September 15,2001, to provide proper representation to the reserved catories. There were 28,700 vacancies lying in various Government departments that would be filled now according to the old formula of reservation.
