New Delhi
By Our Staff Reporter.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit appreciated the participatory role of school children in the cleanliness drive and called upon them to persuade their parents to keep the Yamuna clean. While appealing to the people of Delhi for cooperation, Ms. Dikshit urged them to minimise their offerings to the Yamuna while performing religious rituals. Others who performed "shramdaan'' at various points on the banks of the Yamuna included the Delhi Environment Minister, Deep Chand Bandhu; the Finance Minister, Mahinder Singh Saathi; the Health and Urban Development Minister, A.K. Walia; the Power and Transport Minister, Ajay Maken; and the Education Minister, Raj Kumar Chauhan. Hundreds of volunteers from the labour, education and flood departments of the Delhi Government and employees of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council and members of various Resident Welfare Associations also participated in the drive. The various points where "shramdaan'' was performed were the Manju Ka Teela Gurudwara, Geeta Colony Pantoon Bridge, Sur and Khudasia Ghats and the Yamuna banks near the ITO bridge.
