Ramit, Vikram bag titles

Chennai June 3. Ramit Tandon and Vikram Malhotra topped in the boys' under-11 and under-13 categories respectively in the Milo All Star Malaysian Open, held from May 29 to June 2 at the Astaka Squash courts in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, according to a press release from the Squash Rackets Federation of India.

National champion Ramit beat Leong Elroy (Malaysia) 9-4, 9-7, 6-9, 9-0 in the semifinals and Mohammed Yaseen (Sri Lanka) 9-1, 9- 0, 9-6 in the final to clinch his maiden international title.

Vikram won his first Malaysian junior open title defeating fancied Ivan Yen (Malaysia) 9-3, 9-2, 10-8 in the semifinal.

He went on to defeat the top seed Jerry Foo (Malaysia) in the final.

Manek Mathur finished fourth in the boys' under-15 section, going down to top-seeded Kapil Nesan (Malaysia) 2-9, 0-9, 2-9 in the semifinals. He then lost to Mohamed Asraf (Malaysia) in a well-contested five-setter in the match to decide the third and fourth places.

Sourav Ghosal was subdued by top-seeded Farham Mehboob (Pakistan) in five games.

He soon defeated Mohammed Izam (Malaysia) 9-7, 9-6, 9-1 to finish third in the boys' under-17 division.

V. Anwesha clinched the third spot in the girls' under-11 category defeating Sarah Cardwel (Australia) 9-7, 9-3, 9-7.

Illness forced Alisha Mashruwala to withdraw from the girls' under-15 category.
