NEW DELHI JUNE 3. The increase in the prices of petrol and diesel has evoked a strong protest from the Opposition. Voicing its strong disapproval of the move, the Congress party said it would mobilise public opinion and organise protests against it. " The move is unjustified and untimely '' said its spokesperson, Anand Sharma. The Congress feels the country is passing through a difficult phase and such a step would add to the burden being faced by the people. " This is not the time for such a move'',he said. Questioned on how the party, which had supported the Government in dismantling the administered price mechanism,(apm)could now oppose the hike in prices of petrol and diesel, he said only the timing was opposed. The Government had not hiked the prices when they rose in the international market, then why are they raising them now, he asked. The central committee of the CPI (ML) demanded a rollback. The senior CPI leader, D. Raja, said the increase would place an unbearable burden on the consumers.
