The search operations were launched after a civilian labourer at the station purportedly saw three armed men enter the premises. He had reported that the men had rifles slung across their shoulders. The operations continued throughout the night with the help of the Delhi police. While the search within the station premises was finished by 12-30 a.m., the Air Force and the Delhi police were busy combing the forest area which is spread along the Delhi-Faridabad border. The searches, however, did not yield anything. At about 7 a.m. today, the Air Force called off its search operation while the police continued to look for suspicious persons in the vicinity. The alarm, informed sources said, appeared to be false, but a definite word on this would emerge only after an inquiry. According to officials, the labourer had probably acted in haste given the extra emphasis being laid on the security of defence installations these days. All personnel, including civilians, have been asked to be on the lookout for any unidentified or suspicious characters entering defence set-ups. In line with this order, the labourer concerned is said to have immediately informed his superiors who, in turn, sounded an alert and ordered a search.
The police were called in and a night-long operation was carried out. Police pickets and barricades were set up along main arteries leading in and out of the city.
