Letters to the Editor
Sir, The survey on suicides (June 2) was revealing. It is distressing to note that family problems and unemployment account for a high incidence of suicides. Unfortunately, there has been a close nexus between politics and suicides, as exemplified by a spate of suicides over the imposition of Hindi. The recent spectre of suicides being committed near the Tamil Nadu Secretariat is a disturbing pointer to the unwholesome trend. These suicides will not stop unless all leaders denounce the practice and refuse to provide relief to the victims' families.
P.K. Varadarajan,
