Film fraternity fails to reach an accord

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI JUNE 4. The discord among the film fraternity over a host of issues is back to square one, with the failure of the players concerned in reaching a mutual understanding. The crisis, precipitated by the legal action initiated against a producer after the bouncing of a cheque given by him to an actor, had assumed wider ramifications. There was a hope of the dispute being settled amicably when the Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (MACTA) held a meeting with the Kerala Film Chamber representatives last week.

The representatives who met the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA) were disappointed, as the actors did not accept some of their proposals. Consequently, the meeting of the Film Chamber with the MACTA on Monday to review the situation, ended on a negative note. One of the main contentious areas is the proposed reduction in the remuneration offered to artists, according to sources. The proposed curbs on acting in serials had also invited opposition. Though the film chamber had openly stated that there was no official ban on Dileep, it is understood that there may be an unofficial ban.
