Silverline's toll collection system

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, JUNE 4. Silverline Technologies is proposing to aggressively market the toll collection software system that it has developed indigenously as part of its post-September 11 initiative to spread risk and beef up visibility in the domestic market.

Silverline claims that the toll collection software system is the first such one to be developed locally. The software is currently under implementation by Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC), an equal joint venture between Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) and Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS).

The strengthening of the 113 km-long Chennai-Pondichery East Coast Road (ECR) and its upkeep are being undertaken by TNRDC. The organisation has put in place state-of-the-art toll plazas, linked to local area network, to facilitate toll collection. Silverline has been roped in to integrate the operations and assist the toll collection supervisors and help in their daily work via generation of timely billing and audit reports.

Silverline claims that the system developed by it incorporates foolproof safety features and integrates finely with varied equipment like closed circuit television camera and smart card reader. The company is also convinced that the software is scalable to other devices like automatic vehicle counters and classifers and boom barriers.

According to Sistla Purushotham, Assistant Vice-President in-charge of Chennai operations, the value of the project may not really be much.
