Rumsfeld coming on June 9

NEW DELHI JUNE 4. The United States Defence Secretary, Donald H. Rumsfeld, is expected here on a day's visit on June 9 as part of a full-scale diplomatic offensive to avert a war between India and Pakistan.

Mr. Rumsfeld will be meeting the Defence Minister, George Fernandes, as well as the Union Home Minister, L.K. Advani.

The U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage, will be here, a couple of days earlier, after a brief visit to Islamabad.
