Letters to the Editor
Sir, Your Editorial ``Towards a thaw'' and the article by Muchkund Dubey ``The Missing Options'' (June 4) state clearly the options before the Government in the present crisis. However, India's persistent contention that cross-border terrorism should end before talks, seems to be exaggerated beyond limits. Even after mobilising huge forces at the LoC, what is the use of crying over cross-border terrorism? The military can easily stop this if the mobilisation is effective. The continued terrorist acts only show that the terrorists are already within the country and it is up to us to flush them out. Nobody else can stop this. After all, we claim that Jammu and Kashmir is our land and it is our duty to crush militancy within our country. Nobody, not even the U.S., can object to this; in fact, they may welcome the step. First, if ever we capture the so-called militants, we should punish them severely; taking recourse to lengthy legal courses will only do more harm to our country.
Wg. Cdr. (retd.) V. Sundaresan,
