Letters to the Editor
Sir, The mounting tension and acrimony between India and Pakistan has been aggravated by media hype. But your effort to mitigate the tension shows through the Editorial ``Towards a thaw'' (June 5). India's patience and tolerance should not be tested further. Pakistan abets terrorism and justifies it, saying it is freedom struggle. Even the recent willingness of the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, to extend the olive branch to us is a masquerade, aimed at concealing its act of endorsing terrorism since Pakistan always has a nexus with terrorists from many countries.I endorse your concluding line: ``New Delhi and Islamabad cannot also ignore the humanitarian and economic horrors of war''. India is in a quandary. It has to act gingerly in dealing with Pakistan on the Kashmir issue.
