The move is aimed at saving the Vilasrao Deshmukh Government from no-confidence motion. Another batch of 15 MLAs is expected to arrive in the City late in the night. Accompanied by Karnataka Cooperation Minister, D.K. Shiva Kumar, from Mumbai, the MLAs were received at the Bangalore Airport by the Karnataka Tourism Minister R. Roshan Baig this evening. Later, they were taken in three luxury buses to the Golden Palm Spa and Resort, owned by film actor Sanjay Khan near Nelamangala. The legislators are expected to make Bangalore their home for eight days before being taken back to Maharashtra to participate in the Assembly proceedings where Mr. Deshmukh would have to prove his majority. The Maharashtra Governor, P.C. Alexander has set a 10-day deadline for Mr. Deshmukh to prove his strength on the floor of the Assembly. This is the second time Karnataka is providing shelter to legislators from another State after hosting MLAs from Telugu Desam Party in the early 1980s when Ramakrishna Hegde was the Chief Minister in Karnataka. Mr. Hegde had sheltered the MLAs to save the N.T. Rama Rao Government.
