Alexander summons CM, Deputy

MUMBAI JUNE 6. The Maharashtra Governor, P.C. Alexander, today summoned the Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh, and his deputy, Chhagan Bhujbal, and sought an explanation from them regarding a complaint lodged by the Opposition Sena-BJP leaders on the "raid on a club and use of the state machinery" in the entire episode.

After meeting the Governor, Mr. Deshmukh told presspersons they had informed Dr. Alexander that they received a call from the Nationalist Congress Party MLA, Shirish Kotwal, a heart patient, stating that he needed immediate medical facility and hospitalisation.

Therefore, the Government decided to deploy a police team and send some NCP MLAs to ascertain the situation.

Mr. Deshmukh, however, assured that the ruling Democratic Front would not take any steps that would cause law and order problems or spark off any other crisis. — PTI
