Kumar told reporters that the five-member party in the Jharkhand Assembly decided against staking its claim after the JMM supreme, Shibu Soren, resigned following his election to Lok Sabha from Dumka Parliamentary seat. He said the Samata Party had earlier staked its claim as the seat had fallen vacant after the death of Dayanand Sahay who was a member of the national executive of the party. The BJP candidate, Abhay Kant, won the seat defeating his nearest Samata Party rival, Raj Kishore Mahto, by 30 votes in the biennial election to the Rajya Sabha. PTI
