Drawn from various private channels, the new recruits mostly girls were screened and selected by a private HRD agency and are being trained in the art of reporting, news writing, editing, voice-over, interviewing and production aspects at the Doordarshan News Centre by senior members of the BBC staff. Of the 22 new recruits, eight will be news anchors and 14 reporters/correspondents. Recruited on a year's renewable contract, they will be based in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. The recruitment, which began in February, has finally drawn to a close.
