Disqualified MLAs move HC

By Our Special Correspondent

MUMBAI June 13. All the seven Maharashtra MLAs, who were disqualified by the Speaker, Arun Gujarathi, today, have moved the Mumbai High Court challenging the decision.

The MLAs — Narayan Pawar, Narsingh Patil, Shivajirao Naik, Vinay Kore, Shirish Kotwal (all NCP), Gangaram Thakkarwad (Janata Dal) and Desmond Yeats (nominated, Congress) — urged the High Court to stay the Speaker's order, contending that it was erroneous, illegal and against the principles of natural justice.

The Division Bench, comprising the Chief Justice, C.K. Thakkar, and Justice Ranjana Desai, posted it for hearing on June 20 and directed them to serve a copy to the Speaker.

It also allowed them to amend their application since it had been drafted hurriedly and asked them to serve the draft amendment to the Speaker too.
