CII team for U.S.

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JUNE 14. A CEOs mission of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is visiting the United States from June 17 to June 22 to focus on the impact of the travel advisories and related actions of the U.S. Government, besides telling the administration and the business community there that India has emerged as a high growth economy despite global recession.

Led by Ashok Soota, President, CII, the mission plans to convey its key concern on how certain actions were having a direct impact on bilateral trade and business relations.

The CII believes that these developments were unfortunate since they come at a time when things were looking up in India even in the face of the global economic slowdown and economic relations between the two countries were on an upswing.

The delegation will meet senior representatives of the U.S. administration and members of the U.S. Congress to brief them on the latest situation and talk to them about the need to bring "our bilateral economic relations back on track''.

The delegation would be meeting Samuel Bodman, Deputy Secretary, U.S. Department of Commerce; Ambassador Alan Larson, Under Secretary for Economic, Business & Agricultural Affairs, the U.S. Department of State, Ambassador Richard Haass, Director Policy Planning Staff, U.S. Department of State; John Cloud, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director, International Economics and James Moriarty, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director National Security Council and Ambassador Jon Huntsman, Deputy USTR.

On the Hill, CII will be meeting Congressmen Benjamin Gilman, Chairman and Gary Ackerman, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Middle East and South Asia. The team will also convey its concern to Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA), Co-Chairman, Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans.
