Police sources told The Hindu that a Border security Force helper was killed and a havaldar, Sukha Bhai, was injured when a BSF post was hit by two mortar shells in Paharpur the first BSF post in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district. About 8,973 families in the border areas of Hiranagar and Samba tehsils have migrated due to shelling. The families have been accommodated in 30 different camps. In a fresh decision, the State Government has decided to increase the ration ratio to migrants from 9 kg to 11 kg . The monthly cash relief is to be increased from Rs. 200 to Rs. 400 a person.
