It was like any other day for her

KANPUR JUNE 14. For Lakshmi Sahgal, her selection as the Left Front presidential candidate did not make much difference as she went about her normal daily routine.

The 88-year-old soldier of the erstwhile Indian National Army's Rani Lakshmi Bai regiment woke up early and went to her clinic in Aryanagar locality here. She attended to her patients till afternoon. After lunch, Dr. Sahgal rested for a while before boarding the Shatabdi Express for New Delhi.

While at her clinic, she attended to two telephone calls from New Delhi seeking her consent for candidature and to convey the front's decision to field her against the NDA candidate, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
