Case against ex-MLA for assaulting SI

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM June 15. The Punalur police have registered a case against the KPCC joint secretary and former MLA, Punalur Madhu, under charges of assaulting the sub-inspector of the Punalur police station, Velayudhan Nair. The development took place this evening near the Punalur KSRTC depot. Police said a parking offence on the part of Mr. Madhu led to the incident. When asked to remove the car from the no parking zone Mr. Madhu allegedly raised objections. This led to a heated argument and the sub-inspector insisted on taking the car into custody. This enraged Mr. Madhu and he allegedly assaulted the officer. Till then Mr. Madhu had not disclosed his identity to the officer, police said.

As per the charge registered under Section 332 of the IPC, Mr. Madhu also prevented the officer from discharging his duty. The officer was admitted to a hospital and treated. A case against causing obstruction to traffic has also been registered against Mr. Madhu.
